I want every student to be successful in music class.Quaver is a community-driven and open-source competitive rhythm game with two game modes and online leaderboards. I am available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 7:50-8:10 a.m. If your child needs extra help, please send me an email so I can arrange to meet with them to help them get on track. I know it isn’t always very nice to listen to, but just think…. Please encourage your child to practice at home. I informed them that recorder practice is now part of their homework assignment each night. I have heard students complain to me that “they didn’t have time because they had other homework”. All students should be practicing their recorders for ten minutes each day at home, in order to progress and be able to perform their playing assessments. Currently we are using the notes G (second line) up to D (fourth line), but we will be adding more notes as we continue learning recorder.Ī gentle reminder…. The goal of practicing these games/apps is for the students to learn to very quickly identify the letter name of the notes on the treble staff. If you or your child find another app that you would recommend, please let me know! I told the students there are probably many more apps to help them practice their music reading skills. Treble Cat Lite – Learn to Read Music – This app is FREE, but I don’t know much about it. Options to set for the other clefs are also included. Any missed notes may be reviewed after the game ends. The range of notes can also be set to your desired practice settings. The range and clef settings are also available on this app.įlashnote Derby- Musical Note Flashcards - $4.99 – This app is like a horse race. The speed of the game increases as you go along. Students must tap on the correct letter name for the note before it passes across the starry sky. Staff Wars - $0.99 – A bit like the Space Invaders game of my youth, this app has the player shoot the notes off the staff in outer space. If your child plays another instrument, each of these apps has the menu to switch clefs (alto and bass) so students can learn those notes as well. I encourage you to get at least one of these apps to help your child practice memorizing the lines and spaces of the treble clef staff. They can definitely be found for the iPhone and iPad. I also wanted to let you know about some wonderful apps that students can use to practice their music note reading skills. If you actually create an account, you will be able to do even more, but this code grants special access to the recorder songs and theory games. Once you have entered this code, your child will have access to these special songs, games and more. To access these songs and games, go to the Quaver Music website and click on “Student Interactives” (yield sign at the bottom left side of the screen). The Music Theory section has some great games to practice music note reading skills (Treble Staff Champion is an excellent one for recorder practice). I have set up a special code for our students to use to access many of the recorder pieces we are playing in music class. There are music games and quizzes to support their learning. Please check out their website Students may create their own accounts where they can compose their own songs, piano pieces and even drum and guitar works. ![]() ![]() ![]() We are fortunate to have access to a wonderful music lesson supplementary program called Quaver Music.
